Pig-n-Ford
Up until tonite the high point of our day was moving the coach from one site to one across the drive. Then, about 4 pm Teri's brother called and said to meet them at the Tillamook County Fair. Ran over there, 5 miles, and met up with them. Went to a race track inside the fair. There they had the Pig-n-Ford race. It was fun to watch. There were 10 Model T ford frames with engine and drive train, and a seat. They would line 5 of these up on the 1 mile circle trak at once. On the shot from the starter gun the drivers would race to a box, grab a 30 pound pig, run to their Model T and hit the hand crank, hoping it fired up fist crank, with pig in arm, jump in and take off. They raced around the track and back to the start line. There, they stopped, ran over to the box with the pig and drop it in. Grab a second pig and do it again. Back one more time to the box, grab 3rd pig, crank the Ford, jump in, and off for one last lap, pig under their arm. First one back and putting pig in box wins. This is one funny race to watch. Real Model T's without the bodies. This is the 100th year, at the fair, that this event has gone on. Can you believe it? I wonder if folks can keep these cars running for another 100 years. Private individuals own these vehicles and some are sponsored by local buisnesses. I don't know if this is done anywhere else but it is sure funny to watch. They will continue racing each night with the final race for the championship Saturday evening. There were two races tonight so I assume the two winners will race Saturday evening against the other winners. What a show.We had no batteries charged for the camera so no photos today. I wish I could have shared some of the action with you tonight.
Got in from the fair and visited with our full time motor home friends for a couple hours around the campfire. We had a very nice visit. The are very friendly, just like most rv people.
Well, it is 1230 am here on the west coast. I guess I better get in there with Teri. She and Sam have been asleep for 30 minutes now. It is quite chilli so getting under the covers will feel good, since I got Teri to warm them up first. No plans for Friday. I just love it. Will do whatever comes along. Retired life, staying in a motor home, is just my kind of life. No job, no worries. Thanks for stopping by. Dan

Now I have never heard of a "Pig-N-Ford", but I have heard about a "Pig-N-Poke", race. When I was much younger, I heard some old folk tales about a fellow that wasn't much on the idea of working for his food, so he had a habit of occassionally slipping into other farmers pig pens, grabbing a young pig, sticking it into a burlap bag, better known to us as a "toe sack", and racing back home as fast as possible. NOW, if he got home before getting caught with the pig, of course he was the winner!!!!!!!!!!!!
