Geocaching Lake Road

Today was a perfect day for geocaching in Southeast Missouri. Look over the car. Colsyn is grabbing our first of 13 caches for today.
Colsyn spent the night with us and had in mind that we would spend our time today geocaching. Well, I could not let him down. We had been saving this line of caches for a special day. Today was the day. Had about a 25 mile drive to our first cache. The rest were fairly close together up a 10 mile stretch of road.

Look close, he is in there digging this one out.

In his right hand.

These would be harder to find in the summertime. We were deep in the woods.

Can you see the lizard? Colsyn almost caught the little guy.

Took me a bit to find this one. It was the 2nd stage of a 2 stage cache. I hate these. But, we had to pass right by it so we worked and got it. I think we should get credit for two finds.

Check out the bunker. Glad they were not firing up here today. This is the local National Gaurd area.

Rubber cactus with geo attached. Good one.

Another good hide.

I have been wanting to see where the water came over the dam last Spring. Today we saw it.

You can see the dam in the background. This was one big flood we had last April in Southeast Mo. Lake Wappapello. The road used to be up close to the dam.

See the frog? He is sitting on the back of a turtle that holds the cache.

This cache had migrated a few feet from where it should have been. We took it back to it's original home.

Do you have any idea why Colsyn has such a big grin? We looked for 30 minutes. Could not find it and was about to give up. I went back to the bug and pulled up the internet. Read every blasted log on this cache. Went back for one more look and before I could get there Colsyn had found it. Neat container. Can you see it?

I hate rocks but this was not a rock, it was under a rock. Some folks will buy a fake plastic rock and put it in the middle of 50,000 rocks, with the cache in it. Those are tough to spot.

Colsyn and I always love the grave yards. This cache was hidden by someone who has grandparents right here. Makes it special.
well, We rolled back through the country trying to burn all of the gas out of the Vdub tank. I needed to replace a fuel line that had collapsed under the tank. We were on fumes when we rolled into the driveway. I did not tell Colsyn but I did not think we were going to make it. We did and pulled the gas tank out of the bug. Grandsons make good mechanic helpers. I got soaked with gas but we got the hose changed out.
Colsyn, his 7 year old sister, and 5 year old brother love geocaching. In fact, all of our grandchildren, that are old enough, love it. This is a great way to spend quality time with grandkids. Today was a day of making memories for Colsyn and me. Thanks for riding along with us.
